File to Base64 Converter

Drop a file in and get Base64 out โ€” no upload, since the file is read locally in your browser. Pick the flavour you need: raw Base64, a ready-to-paste data: URL, or URL-safe Base64 for tokens and URLs. Large files are encoded on a background thread.

When you need file to Base64

  • Embedding assets in HTML or CSS โ€” inline a small image so the page needs one fewer request
  • JSON APIs โ€” many upload endpoints expect the file body as a Base64 string field
  • Emails and templates โ€” attachments as text survive systems that strip binary
  • Tokens and signatures โ€” with the URL-safe alphabet so + and / do not break URLs

Three output formats

raw
Plain Base64

Just the encoded characters โ€” what most APIs and databases expect.

data_url
data: URL

Prefix included, so the string works directly as a src in HTML or CSS.

url_safe
URL-safe + wrapping

- _ instead of + /, no padding, optional 76-character lines for MIME.

Frequently asked questions

How much bigger does the encoded output get?

Base64 adds about 33 percent: every 3 bytes become 4 characters. A 1 MB file produces roughly 1.37 MB of text, so keep per-file size in mind when inlining assets.

Can I convert several files at once?

Drop multiple files into the panel and each one is encoded separately, with its own copy button โ€” convenient for pasting results into an API payload or a config file.
