Base64 to Image Converter
Paste a Base64 image string and see it immediately. The data: URL prefix is stripped, padding is repaired, and the format is read from the file header — then download the image, or copy it as a data URL to reuse elsewhere.

Common image Base64 prefixes
| Prefix | Format |
|---|---|
data:image/png;base64, | PNG |
data:image/jpeg;base64, | JPEG |
data:image/gif;base64, | GIF |
data:image/webp;base64, | WebP |
data:image/svg+xml;base64, | SVG |
None of these prefixes are part of the Base64 data itself. Leaving one in is the single most common cause of a decode error — the tool removes it for you.
Is the preview the original image?
Yes. The bytes are decoded exactly as they were encoded and rendered by your browser, with no re-compression or resizing. Downloading gives you the original file back, not a screenshot of the preview.
Frequently asked questions
The decoded image will not display — why?
Either the data was truncated (the string was cut short when copied) or the bytes are not an image at all. The report tells you which: it names the detected type, or the position of the first invalid character.
Is SVG supported?
Yes — see Base64 to SVG for the specific case where the payload is an SVG vector.
Can I convert a Base64 image to PNG?
The tool restores the original format rather than re-encoding it, so a JPEG stays a JPEG. If you need a different format, open the restored file and re-save it — that also keeps the image quality under your control.
