Base64 to Excel Converter

Paste the Base64 and download the spreadsheet. Both .xlsx and macro-enabled .xlsm are recognized from the archive structure; the file is restored byte for byte, so formulas, styles and sheets all survive.

Where Base64 workbooks come from

  • Reporting APIs โ€” endpoints that generate a spreadsheet on demand and return it as a string
  • CRM and ERP exports โ€” scheduled exports delivered as Base64 instead of a file link
  • Automation pipelines โ€” n8n, Zapier and similar tools pass files as Base64 between steps

How an .xlsx is recognized

The workbook is a ZIP archive; the decoded bytes start with PK and contain an xl/ directory. A macro-enabled workbook carries vbaProject.bin inside, which is how .xlsm is separated from .xlsx.

Macro-enabled .xlsm files

Macros are preserved because the bytes are not rewritten. Be deliberate about opening a macro-enabled workbook from an untrusted source: the tool restores the file faithfully, which means it also restores anything the file intends to run.

Frequently asked questions

Can the tool preview the table contents?

No. Reading the cell values means parsing the whole workbook, which would mean shipping a spreadsheet engine into the browser for a case that is better served by opening the downloaded file.

Is CSV supported?

A CSV is plain text, so it decodes to text rather than to a workbook โ€” use Base64 to text, or the TXT page if you want the output saved as a file.
